LDM7x - the light and fast one for industrial automation

LDM7x Series

The laser distance sensors of the LDM7x series are designed for measurements of moving targets. The sensor is characterized by an above-average measured value output frequency, up to 40 kilohertz. It can be used to detect objects in industrial automation.

The sensor is also suitable for monitoring defined areas during transport. The sensor is offered as a complete device with industry standard IP67 and for OEM partners as a measuring module for integration into modular systems.

LDM5x – high-precision measurements at hot ambient temperatures

The LDM5x series of laser distance sensors has a measurement frequency of 100 Hz enabling high precision measurements or distance monitoring up to 200 meters for reflective surfaces. The measuring distance for natural surfaces (< 10% reflectance) is 85 meters. Both the 200 meter and 85 meter measurements have an accuracy of ±1 mm. LDM5x series devices are ideal for measuring hot surfaces such continuous cast steel slabs and billets, thin cast slabs, blooms, etc. The LDM5x series excels in bright light outdoor conditions where large quantities of stray, direct, and indirect sun light may interfere.

LDM5x series devices contain an OLED touch screen as the MMI for easy configuration and parameterization. The LDM5x series uses a visible (red) Eye Safe Class 2 laser emitting at 655 nm which also may be used to align the range finder visually to the target. These devices have met the stringent IP67 / NEMA 6 requirements. The LDM5x series has fully integrated RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, Profibus, and SSI compatible connection options, switching outputs and the ability to switch between analog and digital output.

Options for the LDM5x series laser distance sensors include: internal heater (for cold climate operations), three digital outputs / trigger for remote signal generation and control, plus a case hardened chassis for EMI protection, allowing this small, compact unit to be fully and easily integrated into existing and new systems and automation plants.

LDS30 – the small one for system integrations

The compact LDS30 series laser distance sensors are capable of measuring low reflectance (natural) surfaces with frequencies of 30 kHz. The LDS30 series was designed specifically for the scanning and proximity sensing applications.

The LDS30 series uses the time of flight measuring principles along with an eye-safe class 1 laser (wavelength 905 nm) to achieve a range of 30 m for surfaces with 10% reflectance. In conjunction with reflective surfaces or special targets this range may be increased to distances of up to 250 meters.

The extremely compact, lightweight, case hardened chassis makes the LDS30 series laser rangefinder resistant to normal impact and shock associated with industrial applications. The chassis improvements also make the LDS30 series impervious to dust infiltration and moisture impregnation (IP67 / NEMA 6).

LDM301 – for speed measurements in port

The laser distance sensors that make up the LDM301 series use a measured time-of-flight principle to measure distances of 300 m for natural surfaces and 3000 m for reflective surfaces. The fast time-of-flight method enables the system also to calculate the speed of the object.

Measurements may occur at a frequency of 10 kHz. These high frequency distance measurements enable the LDM301 series of products also to determine the speed of the object. High rates of measurement make the LDM301 particularly useful in continuous process control associated with chemical, steel, refining, and other high volume manufacturing operations.

Jenoptik’s LDM301 series has been built to meet or exceed the demanding IP67 internal protection standards. LDM301 series IP67 certification means that these units will survive in the harshest conditions of temperature (-40 °C to +60 °C), rain, sleet, and snow as well as corrosive, abrasive, and salt fog environments.

LDM302 – for measurements on surfaces of low reflectance

The LDM302 series of laser distance sensors is specifically built to measure distances with high precision for surfaces of low reflectance (e. g. asphalt, grass, oxidized steel and aluminum). The LDM302 series is capable of measuring moving or static objects up to 3,000 meters with low reflectance.

LDM302’s have proven themselves in the field by measuring moving objects with a reflectance of 6% at distances of 200 meters (Ship Docking Trials). LDM302’s have proven successful in the control of container moving trams, overhead crane positioning, load retrieval, and load setting trials. The LDM302 has been used on aircraft to calculate the altitude of the airframe during flight.

LDM302 series laser range finders rely upon the proven time-of-flight measurements (also used in the LDM301’s and LSD30) to make their distance and speed measurements. The time-of-flight method allows the LDM302 to measure moving objects even with less than 3% reflectance at distances of 50 meters.

The fully customizable LDM302 modular configuration allows these laser range finders to be easily adapted to the harshest environments while maintaining high precision and accuracy. The ability to select either fixed or variable sampling rates is accommodated by this modularity.

The compact, modular design combined with existing or customizable options enables the LDM302 to be retrofitted into existing systems as easily as new builds for real time, real world, distance and speed measurements with low reflection bodies under critical operating conditions.

LDM41/42/43 serie – measure distances of up to 150 meters

Distance measurements with millimeter accuracy can be obtained by using one of our LDM4x series laser distance sensors allowing accurate and precise object locating.

The LDM4x series can measure distances of up to 150 meters, at measurement rates of up to 50 Hz. The ability to measure with accuracy of a few millimeters is made possible by phase comparison method.

The red laser light emitted by the LDM4x series laser distance sensors enables visual confirmation, alignment, and targeting. Applications for the LDM40 laser distance sensors include level monitoring (liquid and solid), positional reference and location of objects, and collision prevention of moving objects (e. g. cranes, lifts, conveyance systems).

The LDM4x series is capable of measuring 30 meter distances on natural surfaces with millimeter precision without contacting the measuring surface eliminating wear and the associated error. The LDM4x series is able to perform these highly accurate measurements using an eye-safe class 2 laser.

Jenoptik’s LDM4x series features a case hardened chassis that is seal from the environment in order to keep dust, water spray, and the weather out of the optical systems. The LDM4x sensors may be equipped with internal heating elements increasing the operating range from +50 oC through -40 oC.
